Debate Practice

Debate

Rebuttal drill

1. Record yourself giving a rebuttal speech

2. Use a free online transcribing service to transcribe it.

3. Read through all that you said, then highlight the parts that you needed to say, or cut out the unnessesary parts. (i.e. filler words, redundant statements, etc)

4. Go through it again to see what else wasn’t absolutely critical for you to say.

Why? Rebuttal speeches, especially the 1AR, are crammed for enough time to respond to all the opposing team’s arguments (unless you group arguments), so if you cut out as much as you possibly can you will save yourself a lot of time and provide much more clarity for your judge.
