WHO WE ARE

Christos Apologia, abbreviated as CHAP, is a debate club for Christian homeschoolers aged 12-18. Based in Charleston, SC, CHAP teaches teens how to discuss opposing sides of topics in a Christ-like manner, training them to become effective ambassadors for Christ. CHAP prepares students to compete in NCFCA, the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association.

Currently, Christos Apologia of Charleston has upwards of 60 students.

OUR HISTORY

Christos Apologia originated in Beaufort, SC under the lead role of Sharon Mansell. Grant Majors, the oldest of the 5 Majors kids, started attending and became Team Policy partners with Mrs. Mansell’s daughter, Elaina. They were the legendary team of Majors/Mansell. When the Beaufort club graduated, Grant started a club in Charleston under the leadership of Rosa Majors.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Statement of Faith: The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried; and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father; and he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the living and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets; and we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church; we acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.

Amen.

Club verses

“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” – Matthew 10:16

“…but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect…” 1 Peter 3:15

What does Christos Apologia mean?

Χριστός, or Christos

translated as “Christ” or “Messiah”

The Greek word Christos is the root for the English term “Christ” or “Messiah.” In the New Testament, Jesus is called the “Christ” (Matthew 16:16), a title meaning “Messiah” or “anointed one.”

ἀπολογία, or Apologia

translated as “a reasoned defense”

The Greek word apologia is the root for the English term “apologetics.” Apologia and its root forms are found in the New Testament (Acts 26:2; Romans 1:20; Philippians 1:7, 16), with 1 Peter 3:15 revealing the mandate imploring Christians to be ready to give an answer in explaining and defending their faith.
